In Arabic we say Qalb ala Qalb which roughly translates to “hearts in sync”. In essence, it’s talking about telepathy, and the unspoken words, and how they are not necessary in order to bond. What I love about it most is that it isn’t restrictive to romantic love, but instead it is open to any love at all. You would say it when you bump into someone you adore unexpectedly, at the grocery store maybe, or in the middle of traffic. Or even when you say something at the same time as someone else. The idea is that these things happen because your hearts are connected, and that somewhere along this telepathic journey, they bumped into, or brushed past one another, and that, because they were meant to meet, they always, always will. They will always find a way to each other. That’s comforting to me.

Narrated Haritha bin Wahb Al Khuzai (radhiAllahu ‘anhu)

I heard the Prophet (sallAllahualayhi wa sallam) saying. “May I tell you of the people of Paradise? They are every weak, poor and obscure person whom the people look down upon but when he takes an oath to do something, his oath is fulfilled by Allah. And may I inform you of the people of the Hell-Fire? They are all those violent, arrogant and stubborn people.”

– [Sahih Bukhari Vol. 6, no. 440]

Dunya or Akhirah?

Many of us seem to spend an incredible amount of time and energy chasing the dream job. Afterall, a bigger paycheck often translates into a better car, a bigger house and a higher worldly social status.
But we are warned about this in The Qur’an:
“Rivalry in worldly increase distracts you (from the remembrance of Allah), till you come to the graves” (102: 1-2).
“Your wealth and your children are but a trial, and Allah has with Him a great reward.” (64:15).
Ever think of the results of all of your worldy efforts?
”It will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.” (79:46)
Lavish homes and fancy vacations are temporary worldy fixes whereas dedicating time and effort into something that lasts an eternity make more sense, doesn’t it?
Have you ever stopped for a minute and considered building a house for yourself in Jannah?
”Allah will build house in Jannah for whoever is diligent in observing 12 Sunnah rakat (as follows: 2 before Fajr, 4 rakat before and 2 after Dhur, 2 after the Maghrib, and 2 after Ishaa).” (Tirmidhi)
Yet worries and anxieties are dominating our lives so much so that many of us have missed a few obligatory prayers for some worldly reason. Have we forgotten our appointment with the Angel of Death? Our meeting with Allah?
We have the opportunity for high stations of Jannah – to meet the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him), to meet the blessed companions (May Alah be pleased with them all), and most of all to see Allah, The Most High! It sounds amazing, doesn’t it? Yet still many of us choose to not strive for Jannah. We have sadly become distracted and absorbed by this dunya, and lost sight of our purpose – worshipping Allah – and our main goal – the pleasure of Allah and subsequently Jannah.
“No, you prefer the life of this world, while the hereafter is better and that which remains” (87: 16-17).
Indeed, the akhirah is better for us; we need to use our time in this dunya to work for it.
So why do we prioritize dunya over Jannah?
1. The Cool Factor
Imagine being denied an eternal life of bliss because…
You neglect your prayers fearing you may not look “cool” among peers
You choose not to live according to what the Quran says fearing ridicule or poverty
You do not wear the hijab and jilbab because it is ‘out of fashion’. Or in some societies, solely wear it for fashion.
You spend hours listening to music or staring at magazines filled with haram pictures
When we sit down and logically think about it, what are we doing? “Our souls are precious, and can only be equal to the price of Paradise. Therefore, sell them only at that price.”
2. The ‘No Time’ Factor.
Our Prophet (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the Sahaba (May Allah be pleased with all of them) were much busier than us, yet they never fell short in their duties to worship and remember Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala).
The truth is that we are not busier, but rather we have forgotten our goal and messed up our priorities. The pleasures of this world are nothing compared to those of the Hereafter so why then have we neglected, or even abandoned, our primary duties?
If you find yourself constantly prioritizing dunya over akhirah, it is time to strike a balance:
So you have decided you want to be productive for the Hereafter? Alhamdulillah, making that intention is the first step! If you are still breathing, the doors of repentence are still open and it is not too late to make it to Jannah.
Top 5 Tips:
List your priorities and arrange them accordingly
Use an agenda/time planner to organize your days
Schedule your day around your prayers
Do this as much as you can; make your prayers a priority!
Schedule a realistic and practical time
During this allotted time, you will read Qur’an everyday (you can increase this amount as you progress)
 Use the night hours
“Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion”
(73: 6-8).
Try to ensure that you give everything its right – your
deen, your health and body, your sleep, your family, your work, so on and so forth.
So what are you waiting for?
If you’re still breathing, then alhamdulillah it’s not too late! Begin now – review how to correctly pray and establish your daily prayers, make a daily habit of reading The Qur’an and then acting upon it, learn sunnah actions and lessons from the life of the Prophet (Peace be upon him). Have eman and work righteous actions, and take small consistent steps to improve – you will enjoy super productivity in this world and joy in the next insha’Allah!
Remember Jannah isn’t for 1 week or 100 years, it’s for eternity and comes with unlimited pleasure. Strive now!

“Other faces that day will be happy; pleased on account of the effort they had put in earlier (in the dunya)”. (88: 8-9)

Signs of Heart Disease

There are numerous signs of a sickness of the heart. The first of them, is finding it difficult to live by the purpose of our creation, which is to know Allaah The Almighty, love Him, yearn to meet Him, turn to Him in repentance and to prefer doing all this to any other desire. Indeed, whoever gives precedence to his or her whims, over the love of, and obedience to, his or her Lord, then his or her heart is certainly diseased.
Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Have you seen the one who takes as god his own desire? Then would you be responsible for him?}[Quran 25: 43]. Some of the righteous predecessors said that this verse refers to the person who is led by his or her base wants and whims; hence, he or she lives like an animal, with no knowledge or worship of Allaah The Almighty, in violation of His orders and prohibitions. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {but those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as grazing livestock eat, and the Fire will be a residence for them.} [Quran 47:12]

Let us not forget that as we sow, so shall we reap. Therefore, if a person not only does not live life according to what pleases Allaah The Almighty, but instead actively pursues a lifestyle of disobedience to Him through His very blessings, he or she will neither find comfort nor be relieved of pain, after death, in the Hereafter. Allaah The Almighty, Says (what means):{He will gulp it but will hardly [be able to] swallow it. And death will come to him from everywhere, but he is not to die. And before him is a massive punishment.} [Quran 14:17]

Another sign of a diseased heart is that a person is not disturbed by insubordination to Allaah The Almighty. A poet spoke of how a dead person does not feel the pain of any wound; using that analogy, conversely, a sound heart feels great pain when a sin is committed, and, so, is quick to repent to Allaah The Almighty, as He Says (what means):

·        {Indeed, those who fear Allaah - when an impulse touches them from Satan, they remember [Him] and at once they have insight.} [Quran 7:201]
·        {And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allaah and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allaah? - and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know.} [Quran 3:135]

The meaning of “remember [Allaah]” in both verses, refers to the act of bearing in mind His magnificence, His threats and His punishments, and so, they seek His forgiveness. On the other hand, the one who has a diseased heart will keep on committing sin upon sin.

In another place in the Quran, Allaah The Almighty Says (what means):{No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.} Commenting on this verse, Al-Hasan  said that this means committing one sin after the other, to the extent that the heart becomes blind. In contrast, a person with a sound heart will follow an evil deed with a good one and make sure to repent after a wrongdoing.

A diseased heart, moreover, manifests itself when a person does not feel any pain of being unaware of the truth, whereas, someone with an upright mind could not tolerate that when coming across any confusing matters, or having false beliefs. Verily, ignorance is a serious calamity that pains anyone with a sound heart.

Some scholars would say: Allaah was never disobeyed with anything worse than ignorance.” Also, Imaam Sahl  was asked: “O father of Muhammad! What is worse than ignorance?” He replied: “To be oblivious of one’s obliviousness.” Indeed, such a state entirely hinders the path to knowledge, for a person is unaware of his or her need for it. It was once said that ignorance before one’s death is death itself; the bodies of the ignorant are like graves for the soul and they will have no resurrection until the Day of Resurrection.

Another sign of having a diseased heart is deviating from what is useful to what is harmful. Many people, for instance, refrain from listening to the Quran, about which Allaah The Almighty Said (what means): {And We Send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.} [Quran 17:82]. Instead, they listen to songs that instill hypocrisy, and perhaps disbelief, in their hearts and stir their base desires. Such people sin, by preferring what Allaah and His Prophet, , hate. And that, in itself, is a consequence of having a diseased heart and only increases it in sickness.

On the other hand, the more the heart is sound, the more it loves what Allaah The Almighty and His Messenger, , do, as He Says (what means): {but Allaah Has endeared to you the faith and Has Made it pleasing in your hearts and Has Made hateful to you disbelief, defiance and disobedience. Those are the [rightly] guided.} [Quran 49:7] The Prophet, , said:“He would taste the sweetness of faith, who is content with Allaah as [his] Lord, with Islam as [his] religion and with Muhammad  as [his] Prophet.” [Muslim] He, , also said:“No man from among you will have [perfect] faith, until he loves me more than his own self, children, family and all mankind.” [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]

The last symptom of an ill heart is that a person settles in this worldly life, satisfied with it and is at peace in it, feeling no sense of alienation, such that he or she no longer looks forward to the Hereafter or works for it. Conversely, when a heart becomes sound, it yearns for the Hereafter, to the extent that it perceives the sickness of others, while they do not see its soundness. The state of a person with such a heart, in life, bears the spirit of the Hadeeth in which the Prophet, , said:“Be in this life as if you were a stranger or a traveler.” [Al-Bukhaari ]

How Not to Miss Salat Fajr

Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid

The solution to this problem, like others, has two aspects: theoretical and practical.
The theoretical aspect may be further broken down into two points:
The Muslim should know the great status of salaat al-fajr in the sight of Allah, may He be glorified.
The Prophet (SAW) said: "Whoever prays the dawn prayer in congregation, it is as if he had prayed the whole night long." (Muslim)
The Prophet (SAW) also said: "The most burdensome prayers for the hypocrites are salaat al-isha and salaat al-fajr, but if they only knew what they contain, they would come even if they had to crawl." (Ahmad)
"Whoever prays fajr is under the protection of Allah. Do not put yourselves in a situation where Allah has to call you to account for your negligence." (Tabaraani)
"Angels come to you in shifts by night and by day. They meet at salaat al-fajr and salaat al-asr, then those who had stayed with you at night ascend, and are asked by the One Who knows better than they: How did you find My servants? They say, We left them when they were praying, and we came to them when they were praying." (Bukhaari)
"Whoever prays al-Bardayn* will enter Paradise." (Bukhari)
*Al-Bardayn are fajr and asr.
The practical aspect of dealing with this problem includes a number of steps which the Muslim can take in order to get used to performing salaat al-fajr regularly in congregation.
These steps include:
◊ Sleeping early. According to a saheeh hadeeth, the Prophet (SAW) used to dislike sleeping before isha and talking afterwards. The Muslim should not sleep before salaat al-isha because it is obvious that most of those who sleep before it will spend the rest of the night feeling so tired and heavy that it will be as if they are ill.
◊ It is a fact that people differ with regard to their need for sleep, so it is not possible to dictate a set number of hours that people should sleep, but each person should stick to the salaat al-fajr.
◊ Making sure that one is clean (taahir) and reciting adhkaar (prayers) before sleeping. This helps a person to get up for fajr.
◊ Having a sincere intention and being determined, when going to sleep, that one will get up for fajr. But a person who goes to sleep hoping that the alarm will not go off, and that no one will come and wake him up, will not be able to get up to pray fajr whilst he still has this bad intention.
◊ Remembering Allah as soon as one wakes up. Some people may initially wake up, then they go back to sleep again. But if a person remembers Allah straight after waking up, this will loosen one of the knots of Shaytaan, and will motivate him to get up. When he performs wudoo, his determination becomes stronger, and Shaytaan is driven further away, and when he prays, his shaytaan is defeated, his balance (of good deeds) becomes heavier, and he will feel happy and energetic.
◊ Seeking help from ones family and friends to pray fajr, and encouraging one another in this regard. This is essential, and is undoubtedly included in the words of Allah (interpretation of the meanings):
"Help you one another in al-birr and al-taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety)" [al-Maaidah 5:2]
"By al-asr (time). Verily! Man is in loss, except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth and recommend one another to patience." [alAsr 103:1-3]
◊ The Muslim should encourage his wife, for example by waking her up to pray fajr, and she should encourage him, no matter how tired and exhausted he may be. Children should also seek their father's help to wake up, so he can wake them when it is time for the prayer. No father should say "They have exams, they are tired, let them sleep, poor kids." It is a mistake to think that be doing this one is being a kind and merciful parent; true parental mercy means that the father wakes them up to worship Allah. "And enjoin al-salaah (the prayer) on your family, and be patient in offering them (the prayers)" [Ta-Ha 20:132 (interpretation of the meaning)].
◊ Just as family members should help and encourage one another to pray fajr, so brothers in Islam can also help one another. For example, university students living in the same residence or neighbours in the same neighbourhood can help one another by knocking on a neighbours door to wake him for prayer and helping him to worship Allah.
◊ Praying to Allah to help him to wake up to pray fajr in congregation. Duaa is one of the greatest sources of strength and success in all things.
◊ Using various means of being woken up, such as alarm clocks. These should be put in the most appropriate place. Some people put the alarm clock next to their head, and when it rings, they turn if off at once and go straight back to sleep. Such a person should put the clock a little further away, so that he can feel that it is really waking him up.
One can also arrange to receive alarm calls from the telephone company, and no Muslim should think that it is too much to pay for this service if he needs it, because this is spending in the way of Allah, and waking up to obey the command of Allah cannot be measured in terms of worldly wealth.
◊ Throwing water in the face of the person who is sleeping. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) praised the man who gets up at night to pray, and wakes his wife, and when she refuses to get up, he throws water in her face; and he praised the woman who gets up at night to pray, and wakes her husband, and when he refuses to get up, she throws water in his face. (Ahmad)
Throwing water in a persons face is one of the means of waking a person for prayer that is prescribed by shareeah. In fact it is quite refreshing and energizing. Some people may become enraged when woken in this manner, and they may shout and swear and issue threats, so the person who is seeking to wake another should employ wisdom and patience, and remember that the pens are lifted from the record of one who is sleeping (i.e., his deeds are not being recorded while he is asleep) so he should put up with any bad treatment, and not let this put him off trying to wake people up for prayer.
◊ Not sleeping alone. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade any man to sleep alone. (Ahmad). Perhaps the wisdom behind this prohibition is that a person could sleep too long if there is no-one to wake him up for prayer.
◊ Not sleeping in remote places where it would not occur to anyone that someone could be sleeping there, such as a person sleeping on the roof of a house without telling his family where he is, or sleeping in a remote part of the house or student residence, so that no-one will know to wake him for prayer, but everyone will think that he is in the mosque when in fact he is fast asleep. Anyone who needs to sleep in a remote place should tell the people around him where he will be so that they can come and wake him.
◊ Being lively and active upon waking. One should get up straightaway, and not wake up in stages, as some people do. A person could be woken up several times, and each time he gets up, but when his friend leaves, he goes back to bed. Waking up in stages usually ends in failure, and the only way to prevent falling asleep again is to get up straight away.
◊ Not setting the alarm too early. If a person knows that there is still a long time to go until the time of the prayer, he may think, "I still have time, let me sleep a little more" Everyone should know how to handle himself and avoid this situation.
◊ Lighting a lamp when waking up or, in our modern times, switching on the light. This has the effect of dispelling sleepiness.
◊ Not staying up late, even to pray qiyaam al-layl. Some people may stay up late to pray qiyaam al-layl, then fall asleep a few minutes before fajr and be unable to wake up for the prayer. This happens a lot in Ramadaan people stay up late and sleep a little while before fajr, so they miss the prayer. No doubt this is a grave error, because fard (obligatory) prayer should take precedence over naafil (supererogatory) prayer. So what about those who stay up late not to pray but to commit sin, or at best to do permissible things? The Shaytaan may make the idea of staying up late to discuss important matters attractive to some daaiyahs (Islamic workers), then they sleep late and miss the prayer, thus losing much more than they gained.
◊ Not eating too much before going to sleep. Eating too much makes one sleep deeply. The one who eats a lot gets very tired, and sleeps a lot, thus losing a lot. So one should try to eat lightly in the evening.
◊ Warning about the misinterpretation of the sunnah to lie down after praying the sunnah of fajr. Some people may have heard the hadeeth in which the Prophet (SAW) said: "When any one of you has prayed, let him lie down on his right side." (Tirmidhi).
It was also reported that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had prayed the sunnah of fajr, he would lie down, then Bilaal would call him to prayer, and he would stand up to pray.
People may have heard these ahaadeeth, and be keen to follow this proven sunnah, but they do not understand how to do it properly. So a person may pray the sunnah of fajr, then lie down on his right side, and fall fast asleep until the sun rises. This is because of a lack of proper understanding. The lying down is not for the purpose of sleeping, and Bilal used to come and tell the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when it was time to pray. Moreover, as was reported by Imaam Ahmad and Ibn Hibbaan in a saheeh hadeeth, if the Prophet (SAW) wanted to rest before fajr, he would put his head on his right palm, propped up on his elbow. (Ahmad). This kind of resting prevents one from falling fast asleep, because in this case ones head is propped up on ones palm and elbow, and will drop if one dozes off, thus waking one up again. In addition to this, Bilal was entrusted with the responsibility of waking the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for the Fajr prayer.
◊ Praying qiyaam al-layl late in the night, just before fajr, so that when one finishes witr, the call for fajr prayer is given, making the worship continuous. The night prayer should be offered during the last third of the night which is the preferred time and immediately followed by the fajr prayer, whilst one is feeling awake and energetic.
◊ Following the example of the Prophet (SAW) in lying down to sleep. So a person should lie on his right side, placing his right cheek on his right hand. This position makes it easy to wake up. The best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (SAW), and this is better than sleeping in any other position which may make it difficult to wake up.
◊ Helping oneself by taking a nap during the day, because this will help a person by making him need less sleep at night.
◊ Not sleeping after asr or maghrib, because this will make a person sleep late, and whoever sleeps late will find it difficult to wake up.
◊ Finally, sincere devotion to Allah is the best thing to motivate a person to get up for prayer, because Allah is the One Who is controlling all means of help. If a person has that true sincerity and his heart is burning with devotion to Allah, then Allah will help him to get up to pray fajr in congregation, even if he goes to sleep only a few moments before Fajr.
This sincerity and devotion may cause some very enthusiastic people to find unusual ways to help themselves to wake up to pray, which is a sign of their eagerness and keenness. One of them may set a number of alarm clocks to wake him up, setting each one a few minutes later than the other, so that if he turns the first one off, the next one will wake him a few moments later, and so on. Another may tie a string to his wrist, with the other end dangling from his window, so that when one of his friends passes by on his way to the mosque, he can pull on the string and wake him for fajr prayer.
See what can be achieved with sincerity and determination, may Allah guide you! But the bitter truth is that weakness of faith and lack of sincerity are widespread among people nowadays, as we can see from the small numbers of people to be found praying in the mosques at Fajr, despite the fact that there are so many people living around the mosques in many neighbourhoods.

But no doubt there are people who sleep so heavily that it is almost like an illness, and they may be excused, because the matter is beyond their control. People in this situation should turn to Allah for help, and do everything that they possibly can, and visit the doctor, to try to find a cure.

Signs of a Hypocrite in Islam

1)  Other wordings of this same hadith: “The signs of the hypocrite are three: when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks his promise and when he is entrusted he betrays the trust.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
“…even if he prays and fasts and imagines that he is a Muslim.” (Muslim)
2) Nifaq (hypocrisy): in the Arabic language means the general category of deception, scheming and presenting an outward appearance of good while concealing its opposite.
3) In the Shari ‘a, nifaq is of two types:
a) Greater (An-Nifaq Al-Akbar):
To present an outward appearance of belief in Allah, his Angels, his books, his messengers, the last day, etc. while concealing within that which negates all or some of that. This is the hypocrisy which Rasulullah (SAW) confronted during his life and the ones who Allah said in the Qur’an that they are in “the lowest depth of hell-fire”.
b) Lesser (An-Nifaq Al-Asghar) or hypocrisy of action: To present an outward appearance of good and good deeds while concealing within that which negates that. This form of hypocrisy is built on the 5 things mentioned in the hadith at hand.
4)  The actions in this hadith are all part of lesser hypocrisy: One who has these character traits in interaction with other people is most likely to have them with regard to Allah and his Prophet’s (AS’s). That is why the existence of them is a ‘sign’ of the existence of greater nifaq.
5) Lying. Al-Hassan Al-Basri said: “Nifaq is the difference between the inner and the appearance, between statement and action and between entering and leaving and it used to be said that the foundation of nifaq upon which it is built is lying.”
6) Breaking Promises. This falls into two categories: a) Making a promise with no intention of keeping it. Al-Awaa’il said that one who says “I will do such-and-such Inshallah” without intending to do it has committed both lying and breaking a promise.
b) Making a promise intending to keep it and then later deciding to break it.
7)  Transgression in Dispute: The main meaning of ‘transgression’ here is to intentionally speak other than truth making truth falsehood and vice versa. Lying “calls to” this as in the hadith: “Beware of lying for lying guides to transgression and transgression leads to the fire.”  (Bukhari, Muslim). Rasulullah (SAW) said: “The most hated of men to Allah is the one given to fierce and violent disputation.” (Bukhari, Muslim) Rasulullah (SAW)) said about the one who takes what is not his through clever speech has only been given a piece of the fire.
8) Breaking Agreements. Allah said:
“And fulfill your agreements for verily agreements will be asked about.”(Surah Al-Isrâ 17: 34)
Allah says:
“And fulfill Allah’s agreement when you have made an agreement and don’t violate your oaths after they have been established and you have made Allah your guardian (therein).” (Surah An-Nahl 16: 91)
The most serious oath to dishonor is the oath of allegiance to the khalifah of the Muslims.
9) Betraying of Trusts: When a Muslim is entrusted with something, he must do his best to protect it. Allah said:
“O ye that believe! Betray not the trust of Allah and the Messenger, nor misappropriate knowingly things entrusted to you.” (Surah Al-Anfaal 8: 27)10) These issues have all been connected to hypocrisy in the Qur’an:
a) Surah Al-Munaafiqoon 63: 1-2 (Lying, breaking oaths)
“When the Hypocrites come to thee, they say, “We bear witness that thou art indeed the Messenger of Allah.” Yea, Allah knoweth that thou art indeed His Messenger, and Allah beareth witness that the Hypocrites are indeed liars. They have made their oaths a screen (for their misdeeds): thus they obstruct (men) from the Path of Allah. Truly evil are their deeds.”
b) Surah At-Taubah9: 73-77 (False oaths, breaking promises (to Allah), lying)
”O Prophet! Strive hard against the unbelievers and the Hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell,- an evil refuge indeedThey swear by Allah that they said nothing (evil), but indeed they uttered blasphemy, and they did it after accepting Islam; and they meditated a plot which they were unable to carry out: this revenge of theirs was (their) only return for the bounty with which Allah and His Messenger had enriched them! If they repent, it will be best for them; but if they turn back (to their evil ways), Allah will punish them with a grievous penalty in this life and in the Hereafter: They shall have none on earth to protect or help them. Amongst them are men who made a covenant with Allah, that if He bestowed on them of His bounty, they would give (largely) in charity, and be truly amongst those who are righteous But when He did bestow of His bounty, they became covetous, and turned back (from their covenant), averse (from its fulfillment). So He hath put as a consequence hypocrisy into their hearts, (to last) till the Day, whereon they shall meet Him: because they broke their covenant with Allah, and because they lied (again and again).”
“We did indeed offer the Trust to the Heavens and the Earth and the Mountains; but they refused to undertake it, being afraid thereof: but man undertook it, He was indeed unjust and foolish, (With the result) that Allah has to punish the Hypocrites, men and women, and the Unbelievers, men and women, and Allah turns in Mercy to the Believers, men and women: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
11) Umar (RA) mentioned Rasulullah (SAW) saying: “The thing from which I fear for you the most is the knowledgeable hypocrite.” Umar (RA) was then asked: “How can a hypocrite be knowledgeable?” Umar (RA) answered: “He speaks with wisdom but acts with injustice.”
12)  Ibn Umar was told: “We enter the presence of the ruler we speak to him other than what we say after we leave.” Ibn Umar said: “We used to consider that hypocrisy.” (Bukhari)
13) Ibn Abi Malaika said: “I encountered thirty Companions of Rasulullah (SAW)) every one of them fears hypocrisy for himself and Al-Hassan Al-Basri used to say about it: “No one fears it but a believer and no one feels safe from it but a hypocrite.” (Bukhari)
14) Another aspect of hypocrisy:  to do apparently good deeds with wicked intentions. Allah said:
“They set up a Masjid for the purpose of harm, Kufr, creating division among the Muslims and as an outpost for those making war against Allah and His Prophet before this and they will swear “We only intended good.” And Allah bears witness that they are liars.” (Surah Taubah9: 107)
15) Allah says:
“Do not imagine that those who are joyful with what they have done and love to be praised for that which they did not do – do not imagine them to be safe from punishment – and theirs is a painful punishment.”  (Surah al-Imraan 3:188)
